Because they chase flash, ignore variance, and treat bankroll like a piggy bank.

The Core Principle

Here is the deal: a staking system must protect capital while letting upside breathe.

Flat-Betting

Flat-betting means you risk the same unit every time. Simple, predictable, and it forces discipline.

Kelly Criterion

Look: Kelly calculates the optimal fraction based on edge and odds, so you never over-bet.

Percentage-Based

Risk 1-2% of your bankroll per wager. As the bankroll grows, the unit grows — no static limits.

Common Pitfalls

Stop loss? Forget it. Many systems let a single loss wipe out 10% of the bankroll. By the way, avoid any scheme that suggests “all-in on a hot streak.”

Putting It All Together

Mix flat-bet for consistency, sprinkle Kelly for high-edge opportunities, and keep a 1-2% safety net. This hybrid model adapts to volatility without drowning you.

Real-World Example

Imagine a 10k bankroll, edge of 5%, odds of 2.0. Kelly says wager 2.5% (≈250). Flat-bet would be 100 each. Blend: 150 on high-edge, 100 on regular. The result? Steady growth, minimal ruin risk.

Implementation Steps

First, calculate your edge. Second, decide your base unit (1% of bankroll). Third, allocate 60% of bets as flat, 40% as Kelly-scaled. Fourth, adjust weekly.

Final Advice

Stop overthinking. Choose a system, apply it, and stick to the 1-2% rule; the numbers will speak for themselves. Start now and lock in a sustainable edge.
