Investing in Devon's Future: Skills and Infrastructure

A skilled workforce and robust infrastructure are essential for attracting investment and driving economic growth. This includes collaborating with educational institutions to develop training programs that meet the needs of local employers, as well as advocating for improvements to transport links and digital connectivity. The goal is to create a county where businesses can easily access the talent they need and where residents have the opportunity to develop the skills required for fulfilling careers. Investing in these areas is not only an economic imperative, but also a social one, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in the benefits of growth. They continually assess evolving workforce requirements and adapt programs to address emerging skill gaps.

Bridging the Skills Gap

One of the biggest challenges facing Devon is the shortage of skilled workers in certain sectors. New Prosperity Devon is working to address this by partnering with local colleges and universities to develop targeted training programs. These programs are designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in high-demand industries, such as engineering, technology, and healthcare. Furthermore, New Prosperity Devon supports apprenticeship schemes and other work-based learning opportunities, allowing individuals to gain valuable experience while earning a wage. This proactive approach to skills development is crucial for ensuring that Devon remains competitive in the global economy.

This proactive approach is a cornerstone of their strategy for long-term growth.

Strengthening Rural Communities: Addressing Isolation and Promoting Sustainability

Devon’s rural communities are a vital part of its identity and economy, offering unique opportunities for tourism, agriculture and a distinctive quality of life. However, rural areas also face specific challenges, including limited access to services, transport issues and social isolation. New Prosperity Devon is committed to addressing these challenges by supporting initiatives that promote rural sustainability and enhance the quality of life for residents. This support is crucial for ensuring the long-term viability of rural economies and preserving the distinctive character of Devon’s villages and towns. This helps to keep money within the local economy and strengthens community ties.

The Impact of Digital Connectivity on Devon’s Economy

In today’s increasingly digital world, access to reliable broadband infrastructure is essential for economic competitiveness. Devon, like many rural areas, has historically faced challenges in providing high-speed internet access to all its communities. However, New Prosperity Devon is actively working to address this issue by advocating for investment in digital infrastructure and supporting initiatives that promote digital inclusion. Improved connectivity opens up a wealth of opportunities for businesses, residents, and visitors, enabling them to access online services, participate in the digital economy, and connect with the wider world. This is particularly crucial for rural businesses, which can benefit from access to new markets and customers. The organisation’s efforts are creating a more level playing field, ensuring that Devon can compete effectively in the digital age.

This approach not only benefits the environment but also creates new economic opportunities. They are also actively exploring the potential of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce Devon’s carbon footprint and create a cleaner energy future.
